Il’inskii, Aleksandr Konstantinovich 

Born Oct. 29 (Nov. 11), 1903, in the present-day village of Mir, Grodno Oblast; died Mar. 28, 1967, in Vitebsk. Soviet Byelorussian actor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1953). Became a member of the CPSU in 1945.

Il’inskii began his stage career in Minsk in 1919. He was a student at the Byelorussian Theatrical Studio in Moscow from 1921 to 1926. He began working in the Second Byelorussian State Drama Theater in Vitebsk (now the Ia. Kolas Byelorussian Theater) in 1926. Il’inskii primarily portrayed comic roles. His portrayals were folklike in terms of characterization, rich language, and humor. His roles included Talash in Kolas’ In the Virgin Forests of Poles’e, Pytlevannyi in Krapiva’s The Larks Are Singing, Mochek-Mochul’skii in Danilov’s Liavonikha, and the title role in Vol’skii’s Nesterka. Il’inskii was a deputy to the fourth and fifth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the Byelorussian SSR. He received the State Prize of the USSR in 1946. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin, three other orders, and various medals.
