Any number of the form bi where b is a real number, i is the square root of −1, and b is not zero. See also complex number.

(mathematics)
A complex number of the forma+bi, withbnot equal to zero, whereaandbare real numbers, andi= √(-1); some mathematicians require also thata= 0. Also known as imaginary quantity.
