[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Jovine's team solved the structure of a mouse ZP-N region and found that the type of fold in the ZP-N is a twist on a protein shape called the immunoglobulin domain, which is well-known for its presence in antibodies.
The researchers' findings appeared in the June 20, 2006, edition of the journal PLoS Biology under the title "AgDscam, a Hyper Variable Immunoglobulin Domain Containing Receptor of the Anopheles gambiae Innate Immune System.
