impedance plethysmography [im‚pēd·əns ‚pleth·ə′smäg·rə·fē] (medicine) A technique by which changes in the volume of certain segments of the body can be determined by impedance measurements. These changes are related to factors involving the mechanical activity of the heart, to conditions of the circulatory system, or to respiratory flow and other physiological functions.
