Animal strain that results when individuals that are more closely related to each other than randomly chosen individuals mate together for many generations.

They tested the long-term effects of high-fat and low-fat diets on males of two inbred strains of mice and discovered that one strain, named C57BL/6J, was susceptible to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and hepatocellular carcinoma on a high-fat, but not a low-fat diet.
Additionally, mice of the C57Bl6 strain may be used advantageously in the study of endocrine disruption when an inbred strain is required.
