Independent Republican Party
(Fédé ration Nationale des Républicans Indépendénts), a French bourgeois political party founded in June 1966 out of the Independent Republican Center. The party supported G. Pompidou’s candidacy in the presidential campaign of 1969 and joined the government after his election. Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, the chairman of the party from 1966 to 1974, was elected president of France in 1974.
