(inorganic chemistry)
A pigment with a true red hue; contains 15-40% ferric oxide and 60-80% calcium sulfate.

There is also a particular colour known as India red.
CRICKET: Former West of Scotland star Subramaniam Badrinath last night stepped up his bid for a first full India cap by hitting 82 not out in just 79 balls as India Reds rattled up 303 for seven in a trial match against the Greens at Ahmedabad.
The Rev John Wylam, vicar of the parish of Chollerton which includes Gunnerton, said: "When I arrived 10 years ago the church was very drab and had lost its original colour scheme of peacock blue, warm marble and India red, and its carved woodwork was covered in brown paint, nor could it offer any facilities.
