ImhotepGreek Imouthes(flourished 27th century BC, Memphis, Egypt) Egyptian sage and astrologer, later worshiped as the god of medicine. In Greece he was identified with Asclepius. Imhotep was chief minister to the Egyptian king Djoser and is remembered as a skilled physician as well as the architect of the step-pyramid at Saqqara in Memphis. Deified around the time of the Persian conquest in 525 BC, he was said to be the son of Ptah and the war goddess Sekhmet. The cult of Imhotep reached its zenith in Greco-Roman times, when sick people slept in his temples with the hope that the god would reveal remedies to them in dreams.
