Inouye, Shinya (1921– ) cell biologist; born in London, England. He came to the U.S.A. in 1948 as a graduate student. He taught and performed research at the University of Washington School of Medicine (1951–53), Tokyo Metropolitan University (1953–54), the University of Rochester (1954–59), Dartmouth Medical School (1959–66), and the University of Pennsylvania (1966–89). He was concurrently affiliated with the Woods Hole (Mass.) Marine Biology Laboratory beginning in 1961. He made major contributions to submicroscopic cell morphology and physiology, and held several patents in optical equipment. How to thank TFD for its existence?
