Objective: We investigated the relationship between inorganic arsenic exposure from drinking water and plasma levels of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) and soluble vascular adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1), both markers of endothelial dysfunction and vascular inflammation, in an arsenic-exposed population in Araihazar, Bangladesh.
Adhesion molecules promote the binding and rolling of inflammatory cells (monocytes, T-lymphocytes) along stressed endothelium, and include such molecules as vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1).
The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the influence of water-soluble garlic (Allium sativum) extract on the cytokine-induced expression of endothelial leukocyte adhesion molecules such as intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1, CD54) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1, CD106).
