Accessing your own ISP locally when traveling abroad. Organizations such iPass have alliances with ISPs around the world that let international travelers access the Internet by dialing up a local telephone number. Such services were very important in the early days of the commercial Internet, when PCs with Internet access were not ubiquitous, and dial-up was the name of the game.
