interval scale [′in·tər·vəl ‚skāl]
(statistics)
A rule or system for assigning numbers to objects in such a way that the difference between any two objects is reflected in the difference in the numbers assigned to them; used in interval measurement.

The numbers can also represent an ordinal scale (1 = never, 2 = rarely, 3 = sometimes, 4 = often, 5 = always) or an interval scale (what percent of the students were in attendance on a certain date).
