Iomega

(Iomega Corporation, San Diego, CA) A mass storage company founded in 1980 that offered a variety of optical, hard disk and proprietary disk storage devices. In the early 1980s, Iomega introduced the Bernoulli Box, which was the first high-capacity, removable disk for personal computers. In the mid-1990s, the company became widely known for its very popular Zip drives, which like the Bernoulli Box, used floppy-like platters.

In the 2000s, removable storage devices slowly disappeared, but Iomega continued to offer external optical and hard drives and NAS devices. In 2008, the company was acquired by storage giant EMC, and Lenovo partnered with EMC to offer Iomega products in 2012. In 2013, Lenovo began to rebrand Iomega products LenovoEMC.
