Iosif Stadnik

Stadnik, Iosif Dmitrievich 

Born Mar. 18, 1876, in Val-iavi, now part of Poland; died Dec. 8, 1954, in L’vov. Ukrainian actor and stage director.

A graduate of a Polish drama studio, Stadnik became an actor in 1894 and a director in 1898. From 1906 to 1913 he served as administrative director of the Rus’ka Besida Theater and from 1918 to 1939 he headed various Ukrainian theatrical companies in the Western Ukraine. He headed the L. Ukrainka Drama Theater after 1941 and the Theater of Miniatures in L’vov from 1944 to 1947. His best roles included Ivan in Kropovnitskii’s If the Heart Goes Its Own Way, Khlestakov in Gogol’s The Inspector-General, and the title role in Molière’s Tartuffe.
