Evnevich, Ippolit Antonovich 

Born Aug. 4 (16), 1831, in Senno District, Mogilev Province; died Nov. 5 (18), 1903, in St. Petersburg. Russian scientist in the field of hydraulics and mechanics.

Evnevich graduated from the physics and mathematics department of the University of St. Petersburg in 1856. In 1868 he became professor of applied mechanics at the St. Petersburg Institute of Technology. He also lectured on applied mechanics at other institutions of higher education. Evnevich’s principal works were on hydraulics; in 1874 he published the book A Course on Hydraulics (parts 1-2), one of the first Russian texts in this discipline.
