Iresine
a genus of herbs, semishrubs, and less often shrubs or trees of the family Amaranthaceae. The leaves are opposite; the unattractive flowers grow in spicate or capitate inflorescences and are whitish or greenish in color. The flowers are either monoecious or dioecious; the plants are sometimes dioecious. There are more than 70 species, mainly in tropical and subtropical America, and also in Australia and the Galapagos Islands. Some species with diversely colored stems and leaves that are easily propagated through grafting are widely used as cover and border plants. The red Iresine herbstii with its gaudy leaved low-growing forms and I. lindenii, including its yellow-leaved variety, are valuable. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
