Irina Petrovna Bogacheva

Bogacheva, Irina Petrovna 

Born Mar. 2, 1939, in Leningrad. Soviet Russian mezzo-soprano. People’s Artist of the USSR (1976).

Bogacheva graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory, where she was a student in the singing class of I. P. Timonova-Levando, in 1965. She received further training in Italy. In 1963 she became a soloist with the Leningrad Theater of Opera and Ballet. Bogacheva’s roles have included Marfa in Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina, Liubasha in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride, the title role in Bizet’s Carmen, Dalila in Saint-Saëns’ Samson et Dalila, and Azucena, Amneris, and Eboli in Verdi’s Il Trovatore, Aïda, and Don Carlo, respectively. Among her other roles have been the Commissar in Kholminov’s An Optimistic Tragedy, Marta in Petrov’s Peter the First, and Aksin’ia in Dzerzhinskii’s The Quiet Don.

Bogacheva makes concert tours abroad. She won first prize in the International Vocalists’ Competition in Rio de Janeiro in 1967. Bogacheva received the Glinka State Prize of the RSFSR in 1973.
