Iritis

an inflammation of the iris of the eye. Since the iris and the ciliary body of the eye are supplied with blood from the same system, an isolated inflammation of the iris is rarely observed; as a rule, iritis is accompanied by inflammation of the ciliary body (see IRIDOCYCLITIS). The term “iritis” is used when inflammation of the iris predominates.
