Isakova, Mariia Grigor’evna 

Born July 5, 1918, in the city of Kirov. Soviet sportswoman. Honored Master of Sport (1946). Member of the CPSU since 1941.

Isakova is a trainer and teacher (the Dynamo Society). She was all-around champion of the USSR from 1945 to 1949 and in 1951 and the first Soviet world champion (1948–50) in speed skating. She is the holder of many USSR and world records in the all-around combined tournament and in races of various distances. Isakova has won 84 medals, including eight gold medals in world championships and 24 in USSR competitions. She has been awarded the Order of Lenin and various medals.
