Isard, Walter (1919– ) economist; born in Philadelphia. He was the first modern economist to apply the economics of location, also known as "regional science," to industry. He taught at the University of Pennsylvania (1956–71) before moving to Cornell University as professor of Regional Science and Peace Science.
