Ishkashim
a mountain range in the southwestern part of thePamirs, in Tadzhik SSR. It stretches for about 90 km along theright bank of the Piandzh River. The highest point is Maiakov-skii Peak, with an elevation of 6, 096 m. There is an ice cover ofrecent origin. The mountains are composed chiefly of gneiss, amphibolite, and other Pre-Cambrian metamorphic rock. Theslopes are covered with mountain steppe and desert, and in thedeep river valleys there are sparse stands of juniper.
