Isidor Vorobkevich

Vorobkevich, Isidor Ivanovich 

(pseudonym, Danilo Mlaka). Born Apr. 23 (May 5), 1836, in Chernovitsy; died there Sept. 6 (19), 1903. Western Ukrainian writer and composer.

Vorobkevich was a priest and a teacher at a theological seminary. He continued the educational activity of lu. Fed’kovich in Bukovina and struggled for the development of Ukrainian culture and for the strengthening of ties between Western and Eastern Ukraine. In 1901 he published a collection of poems entitled On the Prut River, with a foreword by I. Franko. Vorobkevich is also the author of the novellas The Well-trained Horse (1865), The Gypsy Girl (1869), and The Montenegrin’s Revenge (1876), as well as historical dramas based on the life of the common people, including Gnat Pribluda (1875) and Poor Martha (1878). Vorobkevich also wrote operettas, one of which was A Young Lady From Bosnia (1880).
