Imeni Ismail Samani Peak

 formerly Communism Peak or Stalin Peak

Peak, western Pamirs, northeastern Tajikistan. Located in the Akademiya Nauk Range, it rises to 24,590 ft (7,495 m) and is the highest point in Tajikistan and in the range. It was first climbed by a Russian team in 1933.


Communism Peak 

(until 1962, Stalin Peak), highest summit in the USSR. Elevation 7,495 m. Located in the Akademiia Nauk Range in the Pamirs, where the Petr Pervyi Range branches off from it. The slopes are covered for the most part with a thick layer of névé and ice. The first ascent, in 1933, was by the Soviet mountaineer E. M. Abalakov, a participant in the Tadzhik-Pamir expedition of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. As of 1972 there were 580 ascents in all.
