Sir Alec (Arnold Constantine). 1906--88, British car designer born in Smyrna. He is noted for his designs for the Morris Minor (1948) and the Mini (1959)

Because it is stylish and legendary, going back to the original product of Sir Alec Issigonis of 1959, it appeals to those whose incomes would permit them to buy vehicles that cost two or three times as much.
Comeback of the Mini - Sir Alexander (Alec) Issigonis was an impish man with many engineering achievements, but he will be remembered primarily as the man who gave us the Mini, the tiny transport that revolutionized the motoring industry.
It may look Mini-ish, but it is far too large and bloated ever to wear the Mini name and that Alec Issigonis, the original's creator in 1959, would be turning in his grave.
