Dobó, István


Date of birth unknown; died 1572. A hero in the struggle of the Hungarian people against the Turkish oppressors. He was commander of the garrison of the fortress of Eger. With his heroic defense of Eger from Sept. 9 to Oct. 18, 1552, Dobo foiled the plan of the Turkish march on Vienna.
