Voinov, Ivan Avksent’evich 

Born 1884, in the village of Basovo, Poshekhon’e District, Yaroslavl Province; died July 6 (19), 1917, in Petrograd. Participant in the revolutionary movement in Russia. Member of the RSDLP from 1909; Bolshevik. Born into the family of a peasant.

Voinov worked at plants in St. Petersburg and as a switchman on the Nicholas (now Oktiab’rskaia) Railroad. In 1910 he became a correspondent of the newspaper Zvezda and in 1912 of the newspaper Pravda. In April 1912 he was arrested and exiled to Yaroslavl; he was a contributor to the Bolshevik newspaper Bor’ba. In December 1914, Voinov was deported for three years to Enisei Province. In 1917 he was a correspondent and expediter of the Pravda printing shop in Petrograd. In the July Days of 1917, while disseminating Listok pravdy, he was killed by counterrevolutionaries on Shpalernaia Street (now Voinov Street).
