Ivan Iakovlevich Trashutin

Trashutin, Ivan Iakovlevich 

Born Jan. 5 (18), 1906, in Gorlovka, in what is now Donetsk Oblast. Soviet diesel designer. Twice Hero of Socialist Labor (1966, 1976). Member of the CPSU since 1925.

After graduating from the Kharkov Polytechnic Institute in 1930, Trashutin studied in the USA from 1931 to 1933. Upon his return to the USSR, he became a diesel designer. In 1941 he was made the head of a special diesel-design bureau. Trashutin directed and took part in the development of the engines for the DET–250 diesel-electric tractor, the development of the Khar’-kovchanka arctic cross-country vehicle, and the development of the V–2 engine. He was the director of a scientific school of automotive diesel design.

Trashutin received the State Prize of the USSR in 1946. He has been awarded four Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Star, and various medals.
