Avramov, Ivan Ivanovich 

Born Sept. 23 (Oct. 6), 1915, in the village of Sloboda, Ust’-Sysol’sk District, Vologda Province (now within the city limits of Syktyvkar). Soviet Komi actor and director. People’s Artist of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1944.

Avramov studied at the national studio of the Leningrad Theatrical School. After performing and directing at the Komi Republic Drama Theater in Syktyvkar in 1936 and 1937, he rejoined the theater in 1945 and became chief director in 1961. He has portrayed V. I. Lenin in productions of D. Zorin’s The Eternal Source, Pogodin’s Third Pathétique, and Shtein’s Between Downpours. His other roles have included Prokopii in Lekanov’s Rural Evenings, Frolov in Potolitsyn’s It Happened in Syktyvkar, and Potapov in Gel’man’s Proceedings of a Meeting. He has staged more than 60 plays.

Avramov has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and various medals.
