Ivan Ivanovich Molodoi

 

Born Feb. 15, 1458; died Mar. 7, 1490. Son of Ivan III Vasil’evich and his first wife, Mariia Borisovna, daughter of the grand prince of Tver’.

In 1471, Ivan, as coruler with his father, began to be called grand prince. He was one of the leaders of the Russian forces during the “stand on the Ugra” (1480). He accompanied his father in the campaign against Tver’ and, after its annexation by Moscow, was made its prince. In 1483 he married Elena, the daughter of the Moldavian hospodar, Stefan, an act which strengthened the friendly ties between Rus’ and Moldavia.
