Vladimirov, Ivan Alekseevich
Born Dec. 29, 1869 (Jan. 10, 1870), in Vilnius; died Dec. 12, 1947, in Leningrad. Soviet painter and graphic artist; Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (1946). Vladimirov studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1891-97) under A. D. Kivshenko and F. A. Rubo. He was a combat artist-reporter during the Russo-Japanese War (1904-05), the Balkan War (1912-13), and World War I. He also participated in the revolutionary movement. Vladimirov was a member of the Academy of Arts of the Russian Republic. He did genre paintings, drawings based on military life, and paintings of battles and revolutionary events from his-tory (The Barricades on Presnia, 1905, USSR Museum of the Revolution, Moscow; Down with the Eagle! 1917-18, Museum of the Great October Socialist Revolution, Lenin-grad; The Liquidation of the Wrangel Commando, 1932, Tretiakov Gallery).
