Ivashutin, Petr Ivanovich 

Born Sept. 5(18), 1909, in Brest. Soviet military leader, general of the army (1971). Became a member of the CPSU in 1930. The son of a worker. Ivashutin has been in the Soviet Army since 1931. He graduated from the Military School for Pilots in 1933 and from two courses of the N.E. Zhukovskii Air Force Academy in 1939. After serving in the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939–40, Ivashutin held staff positions in the Great Patriotic War (1941–45) and fought on the Trans-caucasian, Caucasian, Crimean, Northern Caucasian, South-western, and Third Ukrainian fronts. After the war he worked in the central apparatus of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR and was appointed deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR in March 1963. He was a deputy to the third and the seventh through ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Ivashutin has been awarded the Order of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of Kutuzov Second Class, the Order of Bogdan Khmel’nitskii First Class, the Order of the Patriotic War First Class, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, three Orders of the Red Star, two foreign orders, and medals.
