Iveronov, Ivan Aleksandrovich
Born Mar. 7 (19), 1867, in Moscow; died there July 29 (Aug. 8), 1916. Russian geodesist. Iveronov graduated from the Moscow Surveying Institute in 1887. Between 1891 and 1915 he was an instructor there in astronomy and geodesy, becoming a professor in 1909. In 1909 he became director of the Moscow Agricultural Institute. Iveronov determined the latitudes of Moscow and six district capitals by observing the zenith stars with a transit instrument (1892). He conducted observations of the oscillation of rotating pendulums in Pulkovo, Moscow, and Moscow Province to investigate the Moscow gravitational anomaly; for the same purpose he determined the deflection of the vertical with respect to longitude at several points in Moscow Province.
