Ives, James

    0.01 sec.
Ives, James (Merritt) (1824–95) publisher; born in New York City. Better educated in literature and the arts than Nathaniel Currier, he was hired as Currier's bookkeeper in 1852. Soon he was not only overseeing the various artists who produced the original drawings but he himself would make some of his own. He was made a partner in 1857 and from then on the name Currier & Ives appeared on hundreds of different prints, posters, and handbills.
