Iwakuni

Iwakuni (ēwä`knē), city (1990 pop. 109,530), Yamaguchi prefecture, SW Honshu, Japan, on the Aki Sea. The site of Iwakuni International Airport, the city contains petrochemical, paper, and metal machine-tool industries. The Kintai Bridge, built in 1673, is famous for providing residents with an escape route from floods.
Iwakuni 

a city and port in Japan, on the southern part of Honshu Island, on the western shore of Hiroshima Bay, in the prefecture of Yamaguchi. Population, 106,000 (1970). Railroad junction. There is a petrochemical combine. Its industries in clude nonferrous metallurgy and machine building. There are also facilities for the production of textiles and paper.
