JA Skinner State Park Location: In the western part of central Massachusetts, on Rt 47 via Mass Pike (I-90). Facilities: Picnic area, trails, restrooms (é), historic site, scenic viewing areas, visitor center. Activities: Hiking, hawk watching, hang gliding, fall foliage viewing, interpretive programs (seasonal). Special Features: Park is located atop Mount Holyoke and offers outstanding views of the Connecticut River Valley. Summit House, a popular mountaintop hotel in the 1880s, is open for tours during the summer months, offering historic displays as well as special events. Park is named for Joseph Allen Skinner, a wealthy industrialist who donated the park's land and the hotel to the state in 1940.
