Jackson, Chevalier (1865–1958) physician; born in Pittsburgh, Pa. He studied at Jefferson Medical College (Philadelphia) and became a professor there; by 1930 he also held positions at three other medical schools in Philadelphia—the University of Pennsylvania, Temple, and the Women's College of Pennsylvania; he was president of the latter from 1935–41. A specialist in laryngology, he devised an instrument that could remove lodged articles from the larynx (1890). In 1899 he invented a bronchoscope, and in 1902 he placed a tiny light on the end of it. How to thank TFD for its existence?
