Jackson, Howell E. (Edmunds) (1832–95) Supreme Court justice; born in Paris, Tenn. He was elected to the Tennessee state legislature (1880) and to the U.S. Senate (Rep., Tenn.; 1880). He rose through the federal court system before his appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court by President Harrison (1893–95).
