Jacuzzi, Candido (1903–86) businessman, inventor; born in Casarza della Delizia, Italy. His family emigrated to Berkeley, Calif., where the Jacuzzi Brothers, Inc., produced an airplane propeller for use during World War I. Candido was the general manager and then the president of Jacuzzi Brothers. In response to his son's rheumatoid arthritis, he designed a pump that produced a whirlpool effect in a bath; the "Jacuzzi" became a status symbol of well-to-do Americans.
