James, Edwin Leland

James, Edwin Leland (1890–1951) journalist; born in Irvington, Va. Joining the New York Times in 1915, he was a war correspondent and European correspondent. As managing editor from 1932 he stressed objectivity in reporting; he was also an influential columnist.
