James Baird State Park Location: In the town of Pleasant Valley, midway between New York City and Albany. Off Taconic State Parkway, park is 1 mile north of the exit for NYS Route 55/Poughkeepsie. Facilities: 18-hole golf course, driving range, pro shop, clubhouse, snack bars, full-service restaurant (é), picnic areas (é), 2 picnic pavilions (é), sports complex, playground (é), nature center, multi-use trails (7 miles). Activities: Golf, tennis, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, recreation programs, nature programs. Special Features: Park land was donated to the state by James Baird, whose construction company built the Lincoln Memorial. The golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, and the par 5, 13th hole is among the most challenging in the Hudson Valley. The restaurant overlooking the golf course is open both to golfers and to the general public. The golf course is open from early April through mid-November; the park is open year round.
