Japan wax [jə′pan ¦waks]
(materials)
A pale-yellow wax with rancid aroma obtained from the berries of sumac; soluble in benzene and naphtha, insoluble in water; melts at 53°C; used in wax products, polishes, and soaps, and as a beeswax substitute. Also known as Japan tallow; sumac wax.
