Warr contends that the newly identified genes probably do represent the first diversified V-region families to be found in animals more primitive than jawed fish. Jawed fish went on to spawn almost all the evolutionary branches of fish known today and every species of land animal with a backbone, including people. He notes that recent fossil finds from China indicate the existence of several different jawed fish early in the Silurian, which began 438 million years ago. |
