Jean Georges Baer

Baer, Jean Georges 

Born Feb. 12, 1902, in London. Swiss zoologist and parasitologist.

Baer studied at the universities of Neuchâtel, Geneva, and Paris. He is a member of the Rockefeller Foundation and vice-president of the International Union of Biological Societies (IUBS). He is also a member of a number of scientific societies of the USA and England and an honorary doctor of the University of Montpellier (France). Baer is the author of more than 200 works on parasitology and a series of articles on the conservation of nature and the International Biological Program (IBP). He was a participant in expeditions to tropical Africa and the arctic. Baer’s investigations on temnocephals and tapeworms in birds and mammals are the basis of contemporary ideas about these parasites. Baer was awarded the gold medal of the Society of Acclimatization and Conservation of Nature in Paris.
