Volders, Jean 

Born 1855 in Brussels; died 1896 in Schaerbeek. Belgian politician, one of the founders of the Belgian Labor Party (BLP). A bank employee by occupation.

In 1883, Volders joined the General Association of Socialist Workers and Liberals. In 1885, as a representative of the association, he attended the congress of workers’ organizations that founded the BLP. From 1885 until 1890, Volders was editor in chief of the newspaper Le Peuple, the central organ of the BLP. In 1890 he became secretary and then chief administrator of the workers’ cooperatives affiliated with the BLP. Volders was a reformist and opposed general strikes.
