Jeannette (jənĕt`), city (1990 pop. 11,221), Westmoreland co., SW Pa., a suburb of Pittsburgh; laid out 1888, inc. as a city 1937. Located in a coal and natural gas area, Jeannette produces machinery, plastics, and specialty glass. Its glassworks date from 1889.

First married in their teens, Jeanette and Malcolm Salmons have been divorced, married other partners and coped with the tragic death of their only child.
