Jefferson Landing State Historic Site & Missouri State Museum Location: In Jefferson City, in Cole County. Facilities: Visitor center, exhibits. Activities: Guided tours. Special Features: Jefferson Landing, one of the few remaining 19th-century riverfront landings on the Missouri River, was a busy center of commerce in Jefferson City during the mid-1800s. Steamboats traveling from Saint Louis to Kansas City often docked in front of the Lohman Building, which today houses a visitor center, museum, and public meeting room. Nearby is the Missouri State Capitol, in which the Missouri State Museum houses an impressive collection of exhibits portraying the state's history, legends, and cultural achievements.
