Jeté

a basic jumping step of classical dance in which the dancer’s weight is transferred from one foot to the other. Performed with small (petit jeté) or large (grand jeté) steps, it is executed either in place or with movement forward, to the side, and rarely backward. While executing a grand jeté, the dancer assumes one of the poses of classical dance and holds it until the completion of the jump. Jetés may be performed with a turning movement or with movement along the diagonal or in a circle.
