Jewett, Frank Baldwin (1879–1949) electrical engineer; born in Pasadena, Calif. In 1904 he began working for American Telephone & Telegraph Co. as an electrical engineer. He later worked under John J. Carty and played a major role in transcontinental telephone transmission. Jewett founded the Bell Telephone Laboratories (1925), where he was president (1925–40) and chairman of the board (1940–49).
