Jnanesvar
(Jnanadeva). Born 1271; died 1296. Marathi (India) poet and religious reformer. Jnanesvar was the author of Vaishnavite religious lyrics. His principal work was the Jnanesvari, a paraphrase in old Marathi of the Bhagavad Gita accompanied by his own commentary. The work is the object of special reverence among the Marathi.
