Jobert, Michel (mēshĕl` zhôbĕr`), 1921–2002, French diplomat, b. Morocco (then a French colony). In 1963, he joined Georges Pompidou Pompidou, Georges Jean Raymond (zhôrzh pôNpēd`), 1911–74.

A skillful negotiator, he helped bring about Great Britain's entry (1973) into the European Community (now the European Union). He was French foreign minister (Apr., 1973–May, 1974) and foreign trade minister (1981–83) in a Socialist-led government.
